* BCTF offices moved from the AZA to WCS on 1 July 2004, although a full administrative transition will not be complete until 1 October 2004. Elizabeth Bennett (WCS) is BCTF's new Host Institution representative on the Steering Committee and will participate in Executive Committee decisions with Michael Hutchins (AZA) and other members during the transition.

Composition and Term Length
The BCTF is directed by an 11 member voting Steering Committee (SC) with corresponding alternates. Each position maintains both a voting and alternate member. All members participate fully in discussions and general review of BCTF operations. Alternates vote whenever Voting members are not present. The SC includes non-voting Chairpersons from each of the BCTF Sub-Committees. Supporting Member SC positions (6) are nominated by Supporting Members in one of the following four institutional categories: Animal Protection (1), Ecosystem Conservation (2), Species Conservation (1), and Zoological Park and Museums (2). Host Institution (currently American Zoo and Aquarium Association) select an automatic voting Co-Chair for the Steering Committee. At-Large SC Member positions (4) are nominated by the GM. Appointments are for one year, with an automatic second year extension unless a majority of the Steering Committee Members present cause for replacement or if members decide to step down voluntarily.

SC Meetings and Communication
The BCTF Steering Committee meets on a regular basis both in person at the BCTF Office in AZA's Headquarter's in Silver Spring, Maryland [SS] and by telephone conference call [CC] - usually scheduled for the last Wednesday of the month from 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM EST. Meetings enable members to make policy decisions and assure BCTF activities are in line with approved goals and budget. The BCTFSC communicates regularly via email and all members are active in at least one priority bushmeat solution sub-committee (i.e. Policy Development, Protected Areas, US and African Education, Economic and Protein Alternatives, Public Awareness, Private Industry Linkages & Market Seller/Hunter Associations).
